B 87, BW 3 Saaletal crossing
The construction of a bypass is required to relieve the spa town of Bad Kösen from through traffic on the B87. In the course of preliminary planning with a study of variants, an approx. 13.6 km long route south of Bad Kösen emerged as the preferred solution. This involves crossing the Saale valley between the villages of Großheringen and Saaleck by means of a 1,226.00 m long and approx. 60.00 m high bridge.
This is a hybrid construction consisting of a prestressed concrete box girder in the centre spans and a steel composite construction in the edge spans. The structure is planned as a semi-integral structure with special requirements for construction (cantilever construction and incremental launching). The route of the B87n runs from the northern abutment axis 10 of the future bridge structure Bw 03A initially in plan over a length of 638.74 m in a circular arc (R = 550.00 m).
